“Kalari” literally means ‘field’, ‘battle field’, ‘dance space’, ‘theatre’, ‘training hall’ etc. In South Travancore and Kerala, the Training Centres for the Martial art ‘Kalari Payatt” was known as ‘Kalari’. Folk Art forms by their very nature, express joy, unity, protest, justice, equality and simplicity. Kalari Centre is a place where people will be trained in such values through Folk Art forms. It is a place of Rehearsal for Revolution. It is in this sense the name ‘Kalari’ is used in Kalari Folk Cultural Centre.
The lower part of the logo symbolize the earth and folk art emerges from the earth meaning that folk arts emerge from the life of ordinary earthly people. The dance form is 'kaliyal' a folk art specific to kanyakumari district which is closely linked with a martial art known as "silambam" expressing the combative nature of Folk Arts. The shape of the Logo is " Karagam" which is a symbol of Folk Dance of Tamil Nadu.
